A TV programme examined the human memory recently - making the correct observations that memory is a huge part of our identity. It enables us to not only recall the past, but imagine the future and recognise the present. Listening to the research into how our memory functions, I was reminded that it is far from a new topic of study. The Bible has much to say about the importance of memory for past, present and future. That God rules over time is a fundamental axiom of Christianity: 2 Peter 3:8-9 Do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. That God broke into time in the Incarnation, and will one day return - Ideas worth a bit of time for reflection. |
